Holly and Craftgate 2010

In additional to all of the other festive events, I've taken on a craft show, too.

In theory, it sounds simple.   People show up, are responsible for their own tables, product and change, we have a merry time (hopefully tons of sales!) and go home, nice and dry, ready to kick back for the evening with a tall glass of eggnog.

Instead.  It turns in to kindergarten without the naptime and some adult snark mixed in.   And it might rain.  As in, record breaking storm of the year.
That saying of no good deed goes unpunished?  Oh YEAH!  Now I realize why some of the event participation fees are so freakin' high.   It's not the venue rental or advertising fees, it's the alcoholic beverage budget for the event coordinators.
Craftgate 2010 =  We don't adhere to the Geneva Convention rules.

I've temporarily closed my Etsy store down just so I don't get overwhelmed.  Let's face it, my craft studio (ha! which also doubles as my office, my writing area and my bill paying center) already could use a good shoveling out and the show isn't even here yet.
One day, I think, one day, I will have some organization in it like so many others who display their perfect rooms on the web.  I could spend hours drooling over the pictures of the color coordinated furniture and the designated crafting stations.  But I think I fear...what if I'm not able to create without the chaos?  My space works for me.   It may be compiled of garage sale tables (one on a set of bed risers so I don't develop a permanent quasi-modo look) and enough Rubbermaid containers to look like a stock holder in a feeble attempt to hold back the tidal wave of fur.  The look has no trendy name to give it a good excuse for the post-disaster look, just that it's all "me".
I think one of my goals for the new year (where's that to-do list??) is to determine what I want to be a hobby vs. a career.  It seems like the fun of creating can easily be lost in the churn of production.
